Is there any difference between a partner and an affiliate? Well, in terms of each one getting benefits, although there might seem to be a difference, in reality, there is not much difference in meaning between these two words.  However, it can be said that an affiliate is a person or a subsidiary or subordinate group that is under the shadow of a larger organization or business.  On the other hand, besides just the spelling difference, a partner has a relationship with another person or with others, is in cahoots with said person or people (although not necessarily in a nefarious manner), for the purpose of achieving a shared ambition.
 
Now, regarding how to make money with affiliate programs, or associate programs as they are also known, and there sure are a whole lot of them on the Internet, for example, pay-per-click or PPC advertising (think, Google Adwords), or even the older (than PPC) pay-per-impression or pay-per-sale systems, or perhaps even lead marketing programs, in a broad sense, affiliate programs seem to include just about everything under the sun.  The problem for those of us on the Internet looking for income sources is how to decide which affiliate system to spend time promoting.
 
It is true that affiliate systems have many advantages for someone running a home-based business.  You do not have the problems of face-to-face encounters to contend with that brick-and-mortar entrepreneurs have.  Setting up a home-based business is relatively cheap; and the potential for making a lot of money, exists 24/7/365 with a vast global reach.
 
Different companies’ regulations may prohibit particular affiliate programs from being run at the same time or in conjunction with one another.  Gambling programs with affiliate memberships are not compatible with PPC search engine advertising in many countries, for instance.  This is something that you want to remember if you are serious about an Internet business.
 
And while there are thousands of affiliate programs to be found online, registering for so-called “third party” affiliate systems which connect advertisers and publishers, like Clickbank, My Help Hub and Commission Junction, gives you the advantage of centralizing your commissions in one place and not wasting time.  Publishers gain access to a bunch of advertisers via just one registration with one user ID and one password, and how convenient is that?  Also, it is fairly easy to track partner performance with a single tech support contact.  Monthly payment of affiliate commissions can go directly into a PayPal or AlertPay account, or, like with Clickbank, come in the form of a monthly check.
 
How should an individual looking to establish a home-based business using an affiliate program decide which affiliate program to focus on, you might be wondering. The important thing to remember when choosing an affiliate program is, know your target audience. Rather than making your chose based on the payment scheme, make it based on the kind of people that would be likely to purchase your product or products.  For example, if you want to sell self-improvement software, linking your main website to brainwave entrainment programs or hypnosis MP3s will bring you more lucre than links to affiliate programs promoting vitamins and minerals.
 
Also keep in mind that it is probably not a good idea to sign up for every affiliate program that comes your way.  Instead, focus your time and energy on only one or two in that it is more probable that you can earn a healthy income.  At least, that’s what the Internet marketing gurus tend to say.
