While economists are silently optimistic about a worldwide financial improvement, many people are still struggling and even suffering immense financial burden. The gap between the needy and the rich is widening again and I can see that within a decade there will be distinct segregation of those that are able to live of their own earnings and those that will be reliant on welfare benefits to get through.

It is very disappointing to see such scenes which is why I try and support small business or online business where possible. If you aren’t already owning a website or writing a blog, my suggestion to you for 2010 is to start one on the side. It doesn’t have to be anything big because it won’t be (it takes time), but something you enjoy doing and one where you can spend ½ hour to an 1 hour a day maintaining. From there you can learn how to monetize and derive a secondary income from it. You see blogs can be used to express your own beliefs on any matter you so desire. To get started on writing a blog, check out this site http://www.howtostartablog.org/ for some helpful hints and tips. The most popular blog sites are Blogger and WordPress. As you progress, you may not need these sites and you may be experienced enough to strike out on your own designing your own site.

Otherwise, if you are more bold and have time on your hands, designing a new site might be the way to go. Irregardless of whether you start a blog or a new site of some description, it is crucial that you have a theme or focus for your blog or site. It is not wise to have a blog or site that covers every willy nilly topic. You would not be able to target your market effectively and get that customer loyalty that is so essential. After you have started your blog and have started generating traffic to your blog, you will need to decide how to monetize your blog. The easiest way is to sign up for Google Adsense. It is by far the most simplest yet effective way to make a little money. You essentially sign up for free, paste some code on your website and every time someone clicks the links on your site, you get paid a certain amount per click. It’s that simple. Learn to tweak Adsense until you are familiar before trying anything else. I run a number of sites that focus on free stuff. The good thing about AdSense is that people who come to the site also see other free stuff sites also advertised on our site. If it is relevant, they will click on it and I get paid. So no matter what your site is about, make it targeted towards a niche topic and AdSense will do the rest.
